Red Mottled Pita Pinta Asturiana Date:05/12/2026The Pita Pinta is the only chicken breed native to the Asturian region of Northern Spain where it traces its origins to the same chickens that were the foundational stock for the hardy Basque Hens. In the 1950s and 60s, the upcoming egg industry in Asturias introduced improved egg layers, dropping the Pita Pinta population drastically, almost to the point of extinction. It took almost 30 years for the recovery of this breed to begin. In the 1980s,
